A History Of Sparty!

You have seen him at athletic events, in parades, around campus on game day, in ESPN commercials, at weddings, birthday’s parties, alumni club events, and promoting literacy to children in schools.  He is everywhere, he is loved, and he is an embodiment of what it means to be a Michigan State Spartan.  He is Sparty.  Have you ever wondered how our beloved Sparty became the Michigan State University icon he is today?  Have you ever questioned how he started?  In this session you will learn the origins of Sparty, the Sparty Mascot Program, and get a rare insiders look at what it is like to portray Sparty.  There are many exciting aspects of the program that most Spartans do not have the opportunity to witness.  Join us for an in depth look of Sparty, “The Gentle Giant”

Our guest speak is Janel Rutzen a graduate from MSU’s College of Education who oversees the Sparty Mascot Program
